Little Black Dress :: From Day to Night

April 27, 2016

It’s almost May and naturally the seasonal transition should have already started, however El Ninõ has a whole different plan for us by serving all four seasons in a day. Instead of Keeping Up with the Kardashians (my favourite guilty pleasure), lately I’m trying to keep up with this temperamental weather. Not at all deterred by this, I am so excited to end the month with a post that is a little different to what I have curated previously on the blog. This post will focus particularly on:

How to style the perfect “Little Black Dress” to take you from day to night.

If I had things my way, with perhaps a few extra hours in my day I would have at least 3 outfit changes a day (morning/day/night), please don’t judge me. The reality is, I don’t have a magic mobile wardrobe or simply time to do so. At times, I find it difficult to manage my time when I have somewhere fancier to be straight after my day-time engagements. Not only do I not have time to go home and change but I also can’t carry with me another separate outfit with me all day long.

My solution? A piece of clothing that can easily be transformed from day to night. This Gerard Darel black  semi-fitted little black dress (LBD) from Loja das Meias (based in Maputo) is the perfect example. During the day, I paired it with my go-to favourite super comfy single stap sandals from Woolworths and a pretty clutch, of course you can pair this with a bucket bag for more utility. At night, you can simply switch the bucket bag for a clutch, put on a statement necklace and slip into a fancier pair of heels, play with colour and/or print to add a little sass. This particular dress is so comfortable and permits all types of movements.

I wanted to showcase another versatile LBD with more edge. This cross neck textured fabric dress was an unexpected gem that I found at Forever New (South-Africa), oddly enough this was part of the limited edition Kendall & Kylie collection, safe to say that I was pleasantly surprised. For this dress, I paired it with another single strap sandal by Steve Madden that has so much character and perfectly complements the look. The key is to think outside the box, a black dress is the perfect canvas to play around with, experiment and see what you can come up with.
